Autism: Another Way of Communicating

communicating in another way.

“Some call it autism, others call it despair and sorrow, I happen to call it hope, beauty and fascination.” mother of an autistic child

Autism is a life-long developmental disability that is reaching near epidemic proportions. It is considered by some to be a devastating condition and has been described as “a hellish, lost world”. However, others believe that a view of autism that focuses on pathology is limited, if not inaccurate.

A primary goal of this film is to promote a greater understanding of the individuality and special qualities of persons living with autism, the family experience, including challenges and joys of having a member with autism, and related “quality of life” issues for those children and adults living with autism.

This message is conveyed in a manner that is engaging, informative and thought provoking. Through personal narratives and family stories, we come to know the unique and endearing qualities, and wisdom of persons with autism from all walks of life through their music, art, and relationships with animals.

Furthermore, the film goes well beyond the topic of autism, as it is infused with the universal theme of the power of the human spirit when facing considerable challenges in life. The development of this film was a grassroots, collaborative effort and a labor of love involving persons with autism, parents, artists and professionals in the field of autism.
